Completed Kitchen project – Sydney

Hi All. It’s been a while since I shared a completed project with you. This is a small renovation that I designed in the second half of last year and work has just completed. I was asked by this family who were downsizing into a 3 bedroom apartment near Sydney city to help make the space feel more spacious and practical, especially in the main lounge and kitchen area.

Before: Kitchen and island in small cramped space

Before: Wall separating entry from Kitchen

There was nowhere for the family to come together and eat, the lounge room was too small to accommodate a table. So I knew we would have to open up the space and create an area to eat nearer the kitchen. As you can see from the before pictures there was a wall separating the entryway from the kitchen. We decided to remove that wall and extend the kitchen out closer to the entry door. This would allow us to have an island bench with a drop down into a dining table to seat 5/6 people. By doing this the space feels open and bright but also far more practical with more storage as well as a dining area.

After: New open kitchen and dining

After: Long kitchen floor plan with new timber flooring and dining area

After: Streamlined finger pull to open cabinetry, large format subway tiles and concrete benchtop create a modern look

We removed the floor tiles in the kitchen and carpet through the rest of the apartment and installed engineered timber flooring throughout the whole apartment, including the bedrooms. This creates a nice flow throughout the apartment. We also updated all of the cabinetry including bathroom vanities and bedroom wardrobes. With a fresh coat of paint and new LED downlights the whole place got a makeover and feels like a superb family sized apartment.

After: New robes in all rooms in the same style as the kitchen cabinetry

We couldn’t be happier with the outcome, it’s a space that will stand the test of time both functionally and aesthetically.
