Darren Palmer – The Room Project

Apr 10, 2017 | Anoushka's Blog, Interior design and decoration

For those of us that follow Darren Palmer, you’ll know that he does selective brand / product partnerships.  One of these is with King Living, and SmartSpace Interiors was lucky enough to get an invite to last week’s VIP Styling Masterclass with Darren in Chatswood, Sydney.

King Living’s Room Project collaborates with a number of designers, like Darren, to style and create amazing spaces.  Letting us get a look not only at how the top stylists and designers think and work, but also see the versatility of King furniture within certain design contexts.

VIP guests joined the King Living team on Thursday 6 April, at the Chatswood store.  Once the pleasantries, champagne and canapes were following, a senior member of the King Team took us through a demo of one of their best seeling modular sofas, the Jasper. Highlighting its versatility not only in terms of usage but also aesthetics.

We then moved upstairs where the man himself took us through two very different room styling options.  Firstly, a deco inspired bedroom (any fans of last season’s Block will have a chuckle) where Darren used subtle geometric material patterns, dark tones and various textures to get the right look.  He gave the King Living Serenade bed – upholstered in a cotton/linen blend – and Oliver tub chair – with a Catherine Martin fabric – an interesting twist.

Next Darren created a seating area using the William sofa, covered in a sapphire velvet, taking tactility to the next level.  This area was more contemporary, with floral print (very in right now) cushions, jewelled tones (a real contracts from last seasons pastels), nested tables and a lux light rug.  Here, Darren pointed out that in good design / styling we need relief and we need stimulus and not to go overboard on the stimulus in any space.

This wasn’t the first-time Darren has worked with King.  Back in February Darren styled two amazing areas, one very madmen and the other a flirty, fun and feminine space.  Both can be viewed here

All in all the evening was a hit.  And it goes to show that designers like Darren aren’t just pundits, they can back up the talk with beautiful designs and style.

A huge thank you to the King Living team and to find out how to work their pieces into your design, or create a design from scratch, contact me here.
