Hi All, here is my 2nd installment for Christmas this year. I thought I would share with you some tips on how to make the best out of your Christmas tree decorating and a few other ideas to generally make your home feel festive. I love this time of year, and decorating my home is a big part of creating a beautiful Christmas for my friends. I’m away from home (being the UK) and Australian Christmas’s can feel very different, for starters it’s too hot to be Christmas right? Where is the snow, ice and super cold mornings that make you feel miserable???
I love being here for Christmas and just because it’s hot it doesn’t mean I hold back from decorating my home in a traditional style with warm colours. I tend to always have a green tree (not a real one as I have a little cat to think about and the needles aren’t good for fur babies). The key when decorating your tree is to keep your colours to a minimum, if you can manage it just one colour, and at most two. White on green is super popular this year, but I couldn’t resist and I had to mix in my favourite Christmas colour red too. Also this year coppers and whites are super on trend and would look stunning in a contemporary home. Start by adding in your lights (I always use white lights for a more modern look) and then add your garlands, bunting etc basically anything that drapes and is on a continuous string. After this with your lights on decorate with ornaments. I love to mix soft felt and wool pieces with glass, timber and traditional baubles.
As for other areas I tend to add springs of holly, decorative ices twigs and baubles around my shelving, not too much just enough to feel like Christmas. And finally to my front door always some kind of wreath, this year I’m using a lovely handmade wool wreath in white from West Elm, and then I added in a heart shaped bell decoration that I’ve had for a few years from a dear friend.
Tell me, how are you decorating your home this Christmas?
