Hi All, I attended a wonderful event last week with the Design Institute of Australia where Dulux presented on their forecast for 2016. It was great to see the themes and new colour combinations emerging. Dulux told a real story for each theme so I thought I would share here with you what will be on trend for the next 12 months.
This was a theme based on fragile life being the embodiment of beauty. Taking it’s cues from nature and balancing fragility and strength to create a palette that was soft but not soft pastel textures, it had a chalky brittle feel to the theme with subtle hues such as flesh tones, lichen, moss and stone.
This was a theme based on looking to the past for reassurances as we move forwards. We seek comfort in nostalgic references especially in times of uncertainty. Rooms are filled with collections and connections to the person living in the space and the past. The look is detailed and luxurious with an eclectic edge. Colour cues are deep and decadent where traditional is made modern. Mustard, pink, purple tobacco leather using browns and rich timbers all feature here.
This was a theme based on mixing iconic elements from across the mid to late century. Taking inspiration from the 60’s and 70’s but injecting a more youthful energy into this theme rather than nostalgia. Creating a remixed style that is fun, playful and encourages lighter aspects of the retro movement. Acid brights clashing with faded colours are at the heart of this theme.
This was a theme based on the lure of the unexplored in terms of design opportunities and scientific advances in biomimicry. Deep ocean and infinite space inspires this theme. Bright glowing colours against dark backdrops are key here. Dark colours form the majority of this palette, juxtaposed with flashes of brights such as red, coral, and metallics.
