It’s been a year of challenge, change and adjustment. Everyone has experienced 2020 with a different lens and no one story is the same. I am however noticing consistency around how people are feeling and thinking about their homes. More than ever these spaces have become the sanctuary that we all need in times change and unrest. And I’m finding that my clients are sitting in two very distinct categories; they either feel that they want to be brave with choices for their homes and create something with impact and wow, or we are creating interiors that deliver a sense of ease. Either way I like to think that I’m helping to deliver beautiful everyday living.
That’s why I wanted to showcase a couple of the new trends that Globe West (one of my key trade suppliers) recently launched with their new 2021 collections. There are 6 trends in total; Neutral Base, Modern Farmhouse, Barefoot Luxury, Evolution, Classic Resurgence and Curated Collage. The 3 that I want to highlight here and that really spoke to the sentiment my clients are showing are the following:
This trend talks to that sense of ease. Globe West have cleverly curated a collection with balance and elevated neutrals that have a refined simplicity. The neutrals come in the form of warmer tones this year; putty, barley, chalk and textured taupes along with eucalyptus and olive. This has to be my favourite colour palette.
You’ll also notice classic marbles and light oaks are still popular, these support this theme beautifully. This palette delivers a sense of the familiar, comfort and an ease of living like no other.
This takes the above sentiment to the next level I feel. Creating retreat style spaces that are luxurious and paired back. These interiors can nurture a sense of rest and renewal, I think this is something that most of us are looking for at the moment. A palette of crisp whites, butter milk, sage and mustard with terracotta, paired with driftwood finishes in smooth edges and soft curves.
This palette delivers on that feeling of resilience, continuity and connection with nature and our surroundings, something that is key to Globe West’s values and mine also.
This is the trend for the brave. Eclectic interiors reflected in the curation of playful colour and contrast. The use of brave materials, and asymmetrical pieces bring a sense of surprise and delight to it’s interiors that no other trend can.
Colours such as sapphire, mustard and pine paired with linens, corduroys, warm oaks, hand beaten metals, and zebra marbles all create a sense of daring drama.
