My new home – design and planning

Oct 22, 2018 | Anoushka's Blog, Interior design and decoration

Hi Guys. I talked a few weeks back about our new home, how we were settling in and also what we were planning for the new year in terms of the renovation. So it seems I may have snagged myself a spot in my builder’s schedule before Christmas to get the phase 1 work done, not sure that I’m ready but here we go!

What does this mean? Well it means that we will rework that floor plan on the upper level. Combining bed 4 and 5 into one large guest bedroom, and we’ll use some of the space in bed 5 to make the main bathroom bigger. We can do all of this before Christmas. This will give us a chance to move into the guest room in the new year and have a newly renovated bathroom to use through the 2nd phase of the renovation.

I’m super excited to be starting early November potentially. However, this isn’t locked in yet and I haven’t even drawn up my bathroom design!!! This is what I’m thinking, a nice easy layout that means we don’t have to move doors or windows saving the budget for the new concrete slab that we need and to move services around. I might have something leftover for some beautiful tiles!

To be honest with you I’ve already chosen my tile design…of course I have right!  I’ve been eyeing off these powder blue penny rounds for a long time and I really want to use them, pairing this with my favourite soft off-white textural wall tile and a terrazzo look floor tile, this bathroom is going to be so serene. I’m thinking of adding some warmth with a timber finish vanity and I will have a chance to paint a colour from 2.2m to the ceiling as we have raked ceilings in both of our bathrooms that would look crazy stupid tiled all the way up, especially as both high walls have my feature tile. So I’ll choose a Dulux colour that picks out a colour in the floor tile.

Now I need to select the tapware, basins, bath, shower, and think about the vanity design. We’re on a strict timeline if we do kick off in 2 weeks so I need to be super efficient and make quick but well thought through decisions. Ever been in this position with a renovation? Gut feel is always the best when you’re pushed for time.

Give me a call if you’re feeling stuck in your design process and are feeling overwhelmed with all of the decisions that need to be made. You can find my details on my contact page or click here to send me an email.
