It’s been a while since I posted about one of my finished projects. And this is a home that I worked on in 2022. We focussed on the main kitchen, laundry and shower room area. The kitchen was also part of the main living and dining space. By changing the configuration of the kitchen and shower room behind we were able to add in a walk-in pantry, an addition that most families prioritise if space allows these days.

I had lots of cues to work from as the main living area already had a tile that we needed to work with as well as fairly new joinery in and around the fireplace area. The floor tile is quite bossy, so the finishes selections were going to be very important in this project!

When working with existing materials it’s important to start there and build. So, the first choice we made was to repeat the colour of the fireplace wall in the joinery in the kitchen, that’s this dark charcoal grey that you can see. Then I needed to think about those floor tiles, so I worked through 3 different collections of stone option for our benchtops and finally settle on this design from Caesarstone – Symphony Grey. This choice marries the floor tile and the charcoal joinery beautifully to create a contemporary kitchen.

As you can see in the kitchen, we had to have some sort of structural support. When designing around something like this I always advise to blend don’t make it a feature if it isn’t something that you would have chosen to keep. Therefore, making the island white, and blending the support post in with the ceiling, walls and island means that you hardly notice it.

Behind the kitchen is the walk-in pantry with marble splashback tile, drinks prep area, it’s own sink so my clients can hide away those dishes when entertaining and of course so much fantastic storage to relieve the pressure on the kitchen.

We also had chance to update the laundry by adding in this beautiful barn door creating more space internally in the room, changing up the floor tile and new fresh white joinery, this then flowed into the new shower room behind. Where we flowed on with the same floor tile, and added in that gorgeous blue feature wall tile, creating a moody space. This is the guest powder room and also shower for the pool area so always in use.
