This home was in much need of an update as well as an extension. It was too small for a family of four. Therefore the plan was to extend the back of the home to include a new open plan living, dining and kitchen space, a large laundry and a new bathroom. This client also added a first floor addition creating a main bedroom suite and home office. My brief was to connect the original traditional features of the home with the new extension. As well as creating a robust space for family living with a modern edge.

Working from a draftspersons plans we thought about connecting the old with the new. The main point here was a space in the middle of the home the old dining room and where the new stairs would be situated. By running the same new oak flooring throughout the whole ground floor, updating light fixtures and using the same colour palette throughout the entry, middle of the house and into the back area we created a lovely connection. We used light oaks, fresh whites and greys with dark blues, dramatic stone in the kitchen and living space to create a feature, installed details like Vgroove panelling in the joinery and around the new fireplace. As well as using texture like tan leathers, sheer curtains, flatweave rugs to make the spaces feel homely and calm.
