Earlier this year I was engaged on a project to assist with the decoration of a beautiful apartment in Kirribilli. My client had already renovated the bathroom and kitchen creating a super modern twist in this traditional space, the building is art deco in style. I was brought in to assist with decorating and furnishings throughout.
My client wanted to create a luxurious but classic feel to her interiors. She is a big fan of the Oly pieces through Coco Republic so that’s where our search started. Her lounge room was being used as a study with no real seating or entertaining area. She had a sunroom that needed window coverings and also something that could double into a guest room. And throughout the whole apartment light was an issue at night so we needed to address all of the window coverings.
Finishes and main features
Given the era of the home I wanted to bring in lots of fabrics so we mostly used floor to ceiling curtains in the sunroom, kitchen and bedroom, we added sunscreen roller blinds where needed for practical protection from the sun. Most of the furnishings incorporate that well known Oly style even if the pieces weren’t from Oly. So lots of shiny silver finishes, light greys and blues with richer colours thrown in such as emerald greens and deep blues. The pieces we chose will work in this home and can be added to in the next home if there is a larger lounge room to work with. In the sunroom we custom made a pull out sofa bed to fit a super small space, added in floor to ceiling curtains to soften the room and we are waiting on a black stone top bistro style table with 2 chairs to complete the room. This will be a lovely sunny area to sit and eat with a friend.
The whole apartment feels cohesive and for a small space each room serves a purpose and this is now a great space to entertain small groups. The colour palette provides a calm backdrop to the beautiful Oly pieces and the quality in these pieces is obvious.
Furnishing and finishes sourced through: Coco Republic, Sofa Studio, The Rug Collection, Moss Furniture, Bloomingdales lighting, Emac & Lawton, Villa interiors and Window Fashion Studio for all of the window coverings. Artwork is client’s own.
