When does a house become a home?

May 13, 2012 | Anoushka's Blog

Gaston Bachelard a French philosopher once said, “If I were asked to name a chief benefit of the house, I should say: the house shelters day-dreaming, the house protects the dreamer, the house allows one to dream in peace“

Home is so much more than a physical dwelling. Home is a place of refuge and safety. It’s a place that we go to relax, unwind and reflect on life. It’s a space where we can really be ourselves, and share good times with our closest family and friends. Therefore it’s only natural to want to create a home that is beautiful and aesthetically pleasing, perhaps a home that is envied by others, or simply a home that we can we proud of.

It’s ok to want the latest and greatest when it comes to our homes. We find ourselves in this culture of DIY, home improvement and new interiors that need to outshine the previous. It’s hard to ignore with shows like Selling Houses Australia, Grand Designs, and Location, Location, Location. We see it in all of the home interior magazines where the most up to date designer looks adorn the pages in all their glory: the Eames replica chairs that are a must have; the latest Florence Broadhurst signature patterns used in a fantastic fabric or rug; that elegant Coco Republic designed beach house on the North-shore.

Let’s put all of this to one side for a moment. For me, when I’m being asked to help a client create the home of their dreams I ask them more about them, their personality, what they like to do on the weekends and most importantly how do they like to live in their home. From there we start to create something special. We translate all of those thoughts, feelings and memories into the design process, and this is what really inspires the direction. It’s about surrounding ourselves with the things that we love and cherish and that remind us of happy times – anything from colours or textures to furniture and memorabilia. So my one biggest tip when undertaking what can seem like the daunting task of creating your dream home is to try and tell your story through your home. Everything you choose sweet good morning messages from colours and fabrics, to furniture and homewares should, in some way, say something about you. After all, not everyone wants to live in the pages of a catalogue or show home.  If you follow this simple rule you will find yourself turning your house into a home to be cherished.

I’ve followed this rule personally  and I can’t tell you how much I look forward to coming home at night after a long day, or even after a relaxing holiday overseas. do you know that parallel space for PC is an application that enables users to utilise double accounts of applications on a solitary gadget. The users can have multiple accounts and run them all the while without establishing their framework whether it is android or any other system. For example, the users can utilise two Facebook accounts, two Clash of Clans, two Whats-app accounts running on a similar gadget. And a house just isn’t a home without the people and pets that we share them with. In my case with my gorgeous husband and our beautiful grey and white cat  – Mio.
